Metrizamide-enhanced CT for evaluation of brainstem tumors.

چکیده
Computed tomography (CT) of the brain has been used extensively to evaluate both supraand infratentorial mass lesions . However, even with the use of intravenous contrast enhancement, visualization of small brainstem lesions has not been totally satisfactory . The differentiation of intrafrom extraaxial lesions has also at times proved difficult and frustrating. Computed tomography combined with intrathecal enhancement using metrizamide provides excellent delineation of the normal anatomy of the basal cisterns and brainstem [1-4]. Small aberrations of the normal architecture can be easily seen allowing early diagnosis and accurate localization of small mass lesions.

Multiplanar metrizamide-enhanced CT imaging of the foramen magnum.
Definition of masses and malformations at the foramen magnum has been less than optimal with traditional radiographic techniques. The use of intrathecal metrizamide with computed tomographic (CT) scanning improves contrast resolution and facilitates detection of abnormalities that may not be apparent on Pantopaque cisternography, plain films, or conventional axial CT alone. Fifty patients with ...
متن کاملAssessment of craniocervical junction and atlantoaxial relation using metrizamide-enhanced CT in flexion and extension.
Metrizamide-enhanced computed tomographic (CT) myelography has made it easier to define the relation of the spinal cord to the vertebral canal. A flexion-extension metrizamide-enhanced CT technique has been developed to study the craniocervical junction that refines evaluation of the relation between the spinal cord and the foramen magnum, atlas, and axis. This technique was used to study 15 ad...
متن کاملAir-CT cisternography and canalography for small acoustic neuromas.
Disenchantment with the limitations, and in some cases the morbidity, of currently used radiologic techniques for the demonstration or exclusion of small acoustic neuromas prompted development of an examination using small amounts of intrathecal air and computed tomography (CT). A prospective study was designed to evaluate air CT cisternography/canalography, wherein patients with the clinical s...
متن کاملComputed air myelography of the lumbosacral spine.
Plain computed tomography (CT) of the lumbosacral spine may be a reliable method for diagnosing herniated disk when abundant epidural fat is present. When epidural fat is not sufficient, CT after the administration of nonionic contrast medium (170 mg I/ml) and/or regular metrizamide myelography have been used. Ten patients were studied by CT enhanced with air injected as a negative contrast age...
متن کاملCT in Diagnosis of Acoustic Neuromas 645
A detailed analysis of the CT findings in 75 cases of acoustic neuroma is presented. The method of examination included plain and enhanced CT, metrizamide CT cisternography (M-CTC), and gas CT cisternography (gas-CTC). The common CT appearances of acoustic neuromas were as follows: 93.6% appeared as isodense or hypodense on precontrast scan; homogeneous enhancement was observed in 53.8% on post...
